Kumusha Shiraz 2017

You know when you’re enjoying a wine with friends and can’t bring yourself to press pause on the conversation to write tasting notes.

The notes below don’t really do this wine justice. Which is really just an excellent excuse to grab a few more bottles made by this rockstar sommelier, winemaker and wine judge.

The Wine:

Deep ruby in colour with a medium intensity nose of dark plums, dark berries, herbal...yes, fynbos! These are repeated on the palate. Dry, full bodied, medium+ acidity/tannins/finish.

Final Thoughts:

Kumusha is made by Tinashe Nyamudoka who is Head Sommelier at one of the 50 best restaurants in the world. He was part of TeamZIM when they participated at the World Blind Wine Tasting Championships in 2017 and 2018.

Kumusha is the Shona word for “one’s home, roots or origins”...the place where you come from...your community. These wines were made with the hope of extending his community into the wine world by telling an African story through wine. And that’s a beautiful thing.
