Caravel Wines Bring the Ruckus Carignan 2019
How fantastic is this label?
It sends me straight back to high school when my youth, and attitude, was defined by Wu-Tang Clan! The name also feels apt for 2020.
The Wine:
Deep ruby with a medium nose of blackberries, cranberries, cloves, black pepper, liquorice, green pepper, leather, smoky tobacco and cedar.
Dry, medium+ body, tannins and acidity. With all the delicious prune, salinity, meatiness and leather on the long finish.
Viti & Vini:
I know nothing about this wine other than it was made in collaboration with Vondeling and the awesome label won some awards.
Conclusion:
Balance (1) + Length (1) + Intensity (1) + Complexity (½) = A good wine. ..especially given it's price point.
Drink now, but has potential for a further ageing.
Final Thoughts:
This will most definitely be on my repurchase list for its easy drinking value for money.
Tasted on a Fruit day at the beginning of the year, and again on back to back Leaf Days last month...those Leaf Days felt more savoury meaty versus the spice forwardness of the Fruit day.
Find the Wine:
It's hard to find, but www.woodstockliquors.co.za has some stock.
