Marelise Niemann started Momento while still working as a winemaker at Beaumont Wines. She started with Grenache, having been inspired after working a vintage with Eben Sadie in Priorat in 2010.

And I was going to pick up another bottle of her delicious Pinot-like Grenache...but then saw this Tinta Barocca and fell in love with the idea of her honouring these old vines. She describes them as vines who have ‘worked long and hard to produce some beautifully fine red blends and seldom got the recognition they deserve’.

A blend of 3 vineyards - Botrivier, Stellenbosch and Swartland - all of which are over 40 years old. It’s another wine that I’ve not yet had the chance to taste but am a firm fan of the winemaker. I’ll be expecting red and black fruits, herbs, earth and spice. I’m absolutely looking forward to opening this soon.
