Constantia Glen Wine Farm

Located just below Constantia Nek, this wine farm has the best views of the Constantia Valley, in our humble opinion! It is THE sunset spot. Do your best to secure a limited seat on the verandah, though there is plenty of seating in their outdoor sunny courtyard, indoor glasshouse, indoor bar area, or outdoor tables at the entrance. A private table is hidden near the entrance - this is a wonderful space to book for a larger group. But don’t discount the joy of ordering a bottle of wine, a superb snack platter or their famous flammkuchen (similar to pizza) and hanging out on the lush lawns surrounding the building. Truth be told, many of us end up on these lawns by the end of the afternoon.

The service is always smart and professional. If you have a fun steward who’s been around the area for a while, you’ll learn plenty about the region and be up to date with all the Constantia gossip.

The Vineyards:

Their vineyards are on predominantly north-east facing slopes, meaning late afternoon sun exposure for the 70% black and 30% white grape varieties. The soils are dominated by decomposed granite and Table Mountain sandstone, as well as water-retaining rich clay sub-soils that allow for dryland farming. Constantia Glen use ecologically sound viticultural practices such as biological insect and pest control from natural predators.

The Wine Tasting:

Constantia Glen offers 5 wine tasting options and one tasting fee is waived if a bottle to the value of R500 is purchased:

• R130 per person for 4 wines (Constantia Glen Sauvignon Blanc, Constantia Glen TWO, Constantia Glen THREE, Constantia Glen FIVE)

• R180 per person for 7 wines (Constantia Saddle White, Constantia Glen Sauvignon Blanc, Constantia Glen TWO, Constantia Saddle Rosé, Constantia Saddle Red, Constantia Glen THREE, Constantia Glen FIVE)

• R120 per person for 5 wines from the winemaker’s personal project (Van Wyk Riesling, Van Wyk Olivia Grace, Van Wyk Chenin Blanc, Van Wyk Rebecca May, Van Wyk Syrah)

• R130 per person for 6 wines (Constantia Saddle White, Constantia Glen Sauvignon Blanc, Constantia Glen TWO, Van Wyk Riesling, Van Wyk Olivia Grace, Van Wyk Chenin Blanc)

• R155 per person for 5 wines (Constantia Saddle Red, Constantia Glen THREE, Constantia Glen FIVE, Van Wyk Rebecca May, Van Wyk Syrah)

Top Tips

The Verandah is everything! Either book way in advance (especially in summer), or be super nice to your wine steward and ask if there are any gaps between reservations.

The superb platters and flammkuchen (similar to pizza) are a MUST!

Take off your shoes and sink your toes into the lush lawns surrounding the verandah.
