Migliarina Seitensprung Riesling 2016
It’s miserable in Cape Town, and we’re not allowed to complain after being on the brink of running out of water. But this goes to show that one can drink Riesling any day!
The wine:
Lime, apple, straw and mineral (gravel, wet stone, wet chalk) and pronounced petrol on the nose. These translate directly to the palate. Light and refreshing, but also intense, structured and focused. I’ve said it before - all the Migliarina wines that I’ve tasted have class and an immediate purity of the grape that is irresistible. It makes me feel like a classy lady...so I’ll continue to drink them...with my pinky extended.
Final Thoughts:
Seitensprung translates to ‘infidelity’ or ‘sidestep’. Which I didn’t understand the connection to the wine...but have since learned that the winemaker creates an experimental wine each year that he’ll only bottle if he’s happy with the quality. 2016 was the year of the Riesling. A fabulous sidestep for many many wine affairs to come.
