BlankBottle Unity 2015
What's your go-to wine to lift your mood? It had been a rough day, and I was sorely in need of some sunshine and happiness. So I, of course, headed straight for the BlankBottle section of the wine rack and pulled out this BlankBottle Unity 2015.

The Wine:
Deep dark ruby...there’s a touch of garnet shining through. Medium nose of black berry fruits, red berry fruits, plum, leafy herby eucalyptus, cinnamon, cloves and liquorice.
Before I’d even swallowed I was taken aback by how smooth this felt. Full bodied, medium+ acidity, smooth soft tannins. Again, before swallowing, I knew this was going to be a long lingering finish...and it was...a finish that’s all berries, plums, prunes, raisins and a little bit of leather. Soooooo smoooth!
Vini + Viti:
Unity is the Somerset West Cabernet in the series that explores Cabernet Sauvignon grown in different subregions across the Cape. These vines are planted at 116m asl. The wine was aged for a year and a half in French oak.
Conclusion:
Balance (1) + Length (1) + Intensity (½) + Complexity (1) = A very good wine.
Drink now, but has potential for further ageing.
Final Thoughts:
As always, I have bitter sweet feelings after opening another BlankBottle wine. But there's comfort in knowing that Pieter Walser's wines are guaranteed to make me smile. My conclusion is that it undoubtedly lifted my mood and satisfied my desire for a great glass of wine
